Comme Des Garcons Homme SS00 Contrast Seam Shirt
Legendary Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo founded Comme des Garçons (French for “like the boys”) in Tokyo in 1969 and debuted Homme Plus, her company’s premier men’s line, in 1978. Kawakubo’s early designs were inspired by the loose-fitting clothes of Japanese peasants and fisherman, but she has since become known for her deconstructed, sculptural approach to garments and bodies. While Kawakubo upends silhouettes less in her men’s collection than in her women’s, Homme Plus still challenges traditional forms of men’s dress through any number of design elements, from slashed, rumpled and cut-out details to seemingly misshapen and asymmetrical cuts to surprising textures and prints.
